WHAT IS A COMMERCIAL EICR?

A Commercial Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) is a detailed inspection and assessment of a building’s fixed electrical installation within commercial premises. This includes distribution boards, wiring systems, lighting circuits, and other permanently connected equipment, ensuring the installation is safe, compliant, and suitable for continued use within a working environment.

Commercial EICRs are carried out in accordance with the current IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) and form a key part of meeting legal obligations under the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, which require that electrical systems are maintained in a safe condition at all times. Unlike residential requirements, there is no fixed statutory interval; however, inspections are typically recommended every 3 to 5 years, depending on the type of premises, usage, and level of risk.
